Children and young people are very important to us. For this reason we support numerous projects that help protect children and young people and promote their positive development.
Through our sponsorship, we support projects in the areas of sport, culture, people and the environment, and children and families, offering people inspiring experiences that are a tangible expression of our corporate values of enthusiasm, family-friendliness and sustainability.
Children and families are our foremost priority, which is why we support a particularly high number of projects in this area. The Kinderland festival, several imaginative children's musicals that appeal to children and adults alike and the Coop Andiamo Sunday sports events are just a few of the many sponsorship commitments we have that benefit families. We also support the school projects «Fit4Future» and «Gorilla» and the YES youth programmes.
In the last three years over 3 800 school classes and 65 000 children, young people and teaching staff from across Switzerland have taken part in the national «Blühende Schulen» flower planting initiative. Each spring schools can order from the Blühende Schulen initiative a free planting set containing 20 organic herb seedlings and organic seeds. This enables school classes to study in depth the topics of bees, biodiversity and organic agriculture. We also joined forces with the Teacher Training department at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (PH FHNW) to devise teaching materials that can be used alongside the planting sets.
Coop invests a great deal in training apprentices. It has over 2 800 apprentices in Switzerland alone, making it the country’s second-largest provider of apprenticeships. There are 31 different professions to choose from in sales, administration, logistics and production. A total of 32 full-time mentors and around 2 000 trainers oversee and support the young adults. Coop also supports the Federal Vocational Baccalaureate and placements in other language regions of Switzerland and abroad. Coop continues to employ 67 % of the trainees once they have completed their training. Thanks to their solid and demanding basic training, many are ideally qualified to soon take on their first management role.
The members of our «Hello Family Club» benefit regularly from promotions and competitions, leisure and holiday offers, digital vouchers and other surprises. The Hello Family Club has over 1 ½ million registered members – representing around 500 000 Swiss families. In addition to providing numerous offers for shopping at Coop, Hello Family organizes events for adults and children and its website has a large selection of exciting tips for days out, craft and games ideas for children and a whole host of interesting information on family-related topics.
